'Shellies'

Een tijdje geleden kocht ik nog eens een nummer van Handwerken Zonder Grenzen. 
Hierin stond een artikel van Monique Boonstra over Shetland en het patroon van haar 'Shellies'. Ik viel er meteen voor en kon hierbij een al-veel-te-lang-wachtend-want-nog-te-breien-verjaardagskadootje afwerken (en dan lig ik er nog steeds eentje achter, nee, ik vergeet dat echt niet).



A while ago I bought an issue of 'Handwerken Zonder Grenzen'.
This issue contained an article by Monique Boonstra about Shetland and the pattern of her 'Shellies'. I fell for them immediatly and hereby I could finally made the-since-much-too-long-waiting-because-still-to-knit-birthday-present (I know, still one behind, I won't forget!).

Ik breide ze met Arwetta sokkengaren van Filcolana in gemêleerd grijs. De versie van Monique was zo mooi dat ik ze echt niet in een andere kleur kon breien. 

I've knitted the Shellies with Arwetta sock yarn by Filcolana in blended grey. I really couldn't choose another colour than Monique did, this is the perfect colour for this pattern.







 



In het patroon zat een verrassing die ik op de foto's niet meteen gezien had: in de duimspie zit ook een kantpatroontje! En...voor beide handen verschillend? Is dat een foutje in het patroon of een extraatje? Ik breide ze netjes volgens patroon, dus met twee verschillende patroontjes in de duimspie. Het patroontje in de rechterspie vind ik het mooist uitkomen.




 












 





 

There is a little surprise in this pattern, which I didn't noticed in the pictures. In the thumb gusset sits a little lace pattern! And even more to my surprise, they were different on each gusset? Is that a mistake in the pattern or just an extra creative touch? i've knitted them according the pattern, so with to different gussets. I like the one on the right hand the most.






Dus bij deze: hoog tijd voor een koffiedate om de Shellies te overhandigen, Lin.

So high time to arrange a coffee date to hand over the Shellies, Lin.

Dankjewel aan mijn bereidwillige modellen: eentje met gelakte nagels voor extra kleur en swung, en eentje met stevige hand waardoor het kantpatroon mooi uitkomt.

Big thank you for my willing models: one with polished nails, adding extra colour and swung, and one with a firmer hand to make the lace pattern more visible.

Omdat ik zo tevreden ben over het katoenen zomersjaaltje dat ik ooit breide (voor mijn Ravelry- en blogperiode) wilde ik nog eens een zomerse sjaal breien.

 
Ik had er het ideale garen voor liggen: Traumseide van Atelier Zitron in nachtblauw. Een patroon moest ik nog zoeken. Wat je dan niet allemaal aan moois vindt! Meteen ideeën genoeg voor nog tientallen andere sjaals. Uiteindelijk koos ik 'Muness' van Monique Boonstra. Dat patroon werd in het speciale lace nummer van Simply Breien in 2013 gepubliceerd. Monique ontwierp dit patroon in opdracht van Wereldwol. Kijk eens aan: Een garen en een patroon uit de eigen voorraad, gratis shoppen bij mezelf!

Het garen breide heerlijk en het patroon is eenvoudig maar elegant. Het resultaat mag er dan ook zijn, al zeg ik het zelf. Na het blocken heb ik een prachtige, luchtige sjaal, inclusief twee foutjes. Tsja, zo ben ik, het moet vooruit gaan en als ik een fout ontdek probeer ik ze min of meer recht te zetten of ik negeer ze. Kantbreiwerk uithalen is immers geen lachje, ok, je kan een lifeline plaatsen, maar daar moet je tijd voor maken. En daar ben ik dus niet goed in...

Maar ik wil dat toch eens gaan doen, tijd maken voor die verfijning en streven naar perfectie. Soms is dat goed voor de ontwikkeling van geduld en wilskracht. ;-)
Die extra tijd vergeet je, foutjes blijf je zien...

 

Years ago I knitted a cotton summer shawl with which I'm very happy. So I decided it was time to knit another summer shawl.
I had the ideal yarn for it in my stash: Traumseide by Atelier Zitron in nightblue. Only had to find a pattern. I browsed and browsed and I saw so many lovely patterns that I have enough ideas for several dozens of shawls. But I choose out of the special lace edition by Simply Breien a pattern by Monique Boonstra called 'Muness' , which she designed for Wereldwol. 

Well, well, well, yarn and a pattern out of my stash! It felt as free shopping in my own little store.

The yarn knitted smoothly and the pattern is simple but elegant.
As I say so myself, the result is impressive. After blocking I have a beautiful airy shawl, including two flaws.
That is so typical for me, I want it to go quickly. When I see a mistake I try to fix it by boggling or I ignore it. Pulling out lacework is no fun. Although you could use a lifeline to make it easier to fix mistakes in lace knitting and prevent to have to rip your complete work. But that takes time, and that's where I'm not good in.
Though I want to learn it, taking time in the pursuit of perfection and refinement. Sometimes it can be good to develop patience and willpower. ;-)
The extra time spend you'll forget, the flaws will stay visible...
