Een laatste paar 6-draads sokken voor dit seizoen. Terug een patroon van Tiina Kuu en ook de travelling stitches zijn er weer.









 


A last pair of 6-ply socks for this season. And again it is a pattern by Tiina Kuu and has travelling stitches in it.


 







Om de travelling stitches tot hun recht te laten komen gebruik je best een effen garen. Maar ik wou graag dit meerkleurig sokkengaren van Katia gebruiken dat al zo lang in de voorraad huisde. En ik vind de sokken geslaagd, het stekenpatroon komt goed uit en de kleuren geven een extra accent.

To make travelling stitches stand out, a solid colour is preferred. But I really wanted to use this multicoloured sock yarn by Katia. And I think the yarn and the slipped stitches are working well together, the slipped stitches are standing out enough and the colours give the socks an extra accent.

 
 

Deze sokken werden toe-up gebreid en hebben toch een hielflap. Eerdere toe-up sokken breide ik altijd met een diabolo hiel, met wisselend succes: gaatjes bij de dubbele steken en/of een beetje strak om de wreef.
Het bijzondere van deze hiel is, dat de spie die anders aan weerszijden van de voet loopt, hier onder de hiel zit. Het geeft de sok als ze plat ligt een beetje een vreemde uitstulping, maar het geeft ook een meer aansluitende pasvorm. 

 
 

The socks were knitted toe-up, but still have a heel with heelflap. Previous toe-up socks I've knitted with a short row heel, with chequered results: holes at the wrapped stitches and/or too tight at the instep. But this heel has a heelflap and a riverbed gusset. Instead of a gusset along each side of the foot, both gussets are under the heel. When you lay the socks flat, the riverbed gusset gives them a strange bulge. But actually it gives also a better fit around the foot.

Nog een paar winterse sokken voor de voorraad.

Het Hovineito patroon, of 'Hofdame' van Tiina Kuu bestaat uit een geometrisch spel van traveling stitches die telkens eindigen in een lus. Eigenlijk ben ik wel benieuwd waarom Tiina deze sokken 'hofdame' doopte. Is dit een patroon wat voorkwam in middeleeuwse kleding? Ik googlde even naar afbeeldingen van middeleeuwse patronen en vond niet meteen iets gelijkaardigs, wel patronen die omgezet naar breiwerk prachtig zouden zijn. Kunnen ontwerpen moet zalig zijn. Ik zou er het geduld en doorzettingsvermogen niet voor hebben.

The Hovineito pattern, or 'Lady in Waiting' by Tiina Kuu consists of a linear pattern of traveling stitches each ending in a loop. I wonder why Tiina named these socks 'Lady in Waiting'. Is this a type of pattern you would see in the Middle Ages? I googled for images of Medieval patterns and didn't see something alike. But I saw several patterns which would look stunning in knitting. Being able to design such patterns must be blissfully. I must admit that I wouldn't have enough patience and pluck to do so.

The socks are knitted in Tweed Trend by Regia. The cheerful coloured speckles already makes me think of spring...
