Rupsensokken - Caterpillar socks

 

Al kan je ze ook gewoon grappige sokken noemen. Of vakantiedagsokken...

They also can be called funny socks. Or Holiday Socks...

Het patroon 'Raupenmuster' is van Nadja Brandt, ook bekend als Kleine Hexorei. Het garen is Super Soxx Cotton van Lang Yarns.

Owlie Mitts for Lin

Koude handen, een vervelend fenomeen. Zeker als je op de computer werkt, handschoenen kunnen dan niet. Vorig jaar waren er al de polswarmers, nu zijn er de met de rest van het garen de vingerloze Owlie Mitts.
Een effen garen had de uiltjes beter doen uitkomen, nu moet je ze een beetje zoeken. Maar het was verrassend hoe je met een paar kabeltjes zomaar een uil tevoorschijn tovert.

Cold hands, an annoying problem. Surely when computing, wearing gloves is impossible. Last year I made wrist warmers for this purpose, now I've made Owlie Mitts with the leftover yarn.

A plain yarn would have made de owls more visible, now you have to take a good look to find them. I was astonished to find out how a couple of cables would make an owl.

 

Sokken voor Ana - Socks for Ana

Ana vertelde me ooit dat haar grootmoeder vroeger voor haar sokken breide. Het waren katoenen sokken, en door de boord moest een elastiek om ze op te houden. Ana vroeg zich daardoor af of zelf gebreide sokken in wol niet (te) dik waren.

Ana once told me her grand mother knitted socks for her. She knitted them in cotton and they needed some elastic band to keep them up. Ana wondered if socks knitted with wool weren't to thick.

Ik vond dat ze dat zelf moest kunnen ervaren, dus breide ik een paar sokken voor haar. Het werden de Glamour Socken uit Stricken to go. Ana houdt van sobere kleuren en van een sobere stijl, dus liet ik de glamour weg uit de sokken: tussen elk 'gaatje' moest namelijk een kraaltje ingebreid worden. Maar ook zonder de glamour zijn ze bijzonder, terwijl de kleur van het gebruikte garen - Jawoll van Lang -  ze sober houdt.

 out of Stricken to go. Ana likes sober colours and style so I left the glamour out. Following the pattern I should have added a bead between every hole. But even without the glamour they are special, while the chosen color of the yarn - Jawoll by Lang - keeps them modest.

Maar de katoenen sokken van Ana's oma lieten me niet los. Ana is afkomstig van Portugal, dus misschien breien ze daar eerder katoenen sokken dan sokken in wol. Ik zocht het eens op en vond op het blog van Rosa Pomar een stukje over katoenen sokken uit Alvito. Wat een bijzondere breinaalden gebruikten ze: licht gekromd en met een haak.

Ik vond nog meer over traditioneel breiwerk op dit blog. Meer nog, Rosa schreef er een boek over. En ze heeft een handwerkwinkel in Lissabon.
Voel ik een breit(r)ip opkomen?

I kept thinking about the socks of Ana's granny. Ana is from Portugal, so maybe cotton socks are traditional? A found something on them at the blog of Rosa Pomar. Look at the needles they're using: they are bended and hooked! I've found a lot more interesting things on this blog about Potuguese knitting. Even more: Rosa has written a book about it and she has a shop in Lisbon. Do I feel a knitting trip coming up?

Sokken met een vleugje romantiek - Socks with a romantic touch

Weer een paar sokken uit Breien to go: een vleugje romantiek van Stephanie van der Linden. In andere publicaties wordt dit model The Scent of Lavender genoemd.

Let op de teen die in boordsteek wordt gebreid. De hielflap vergat ik in de speciale boordsteek te breien. Die instructie stond helemaal aan het begin bij de stekeninfo. Jammer dat er niet opnieuw werd naar verwezen in de beschrijving...Of ik moet gewoon beter opletten, dat kan ook natuurlijk.

Watch the ribbed toe. Sadly I forgot to knit the heelflap in de the special rib.That instruction was given in the used stitches part, but there was no referral in the actual description. A reminder for me that I need to read the instructions wholly and thouroghly...

Dit paar sokken werd gebreid met Meilenweit Soja van Lana Grossa. Een superzacht garen dat helaas niet meer in productie is.

Ronde sjaal - Round shawl

Een ronde sjaal, een vreemd idee maar het leek me leuk om een keertje te doen en bovendien kon ik er een deel van mijn grote voorraad Coton Fifty  van Bergere de France in kwijt. Die kocht ik ooit met het idee er een deken van te breien. Het idee bleef liggen, het garen ook...

Het patroon vond ik in de Lace Special van Simply Breien (03/2013). Het begin was écht priegelen: 4 steken opzetten en verdelen over 4 naalden. Tsja...

The pattern comes from the Lace Special of Simply Breien (03/2013). The start was really fiddly: cast on 4 stitches and divide them over 4 needles.

 

Eindigen deed ik met 960 steken, op een verlengde rondbreinaald. Daarna moest de boord er nog aangebreid worden, en klaar! Een jaar later weliswaar, het was een project dat slechts af en toe werd vastgenomen. 

I ended up with 960 stitches, on a extended circular needle. After that I had to finish the edge with a knitted-on border. I completed the shawl a year after the cast on, it was a project that I picked up only now and then.

De Coton Fifty voorraad slonk bijna met de helft, ik gebruikte 14 bollen op (van de 32....tsja....). Ik zal dus nog eens een groter project voor dit garen moeten verzinnen.

The Coton Fifty stash shrank almost to half, I used 14 balls (of 32...). So I need to think of another bigger project fot what's left over.

Sokken voor Esmée - Socks for Esmée

Ook Esmée werd van een paar sokken voorzien. Deze keer weer eens een model uit het Breien to go: sokken- boekje, het boekje moet immers 'uitgebreid' raken.
Al had ik voor Es graag een culinaire sok gebreid. Es kookt namelijk, en nog niet zo'n beetje. Op haar blog kan je er over lezen. Er bestaan wel sokken met een culinaire inslag, maar ik vond niet onmiddellijk een model wat ik nu echt helemaal Es vond. Al denk ik nu opeens aan 'spekkoek', een spekkoeksok zou wel een makkelijke zijn! Te makkelijk, als ik ooit op een 'culinaire Es-sok' stuit , brei ik ze meteen. beloofd!
Dus werden het de Luchtige Ribbels. Een model waarbij boordsteek afgewisseld wordt met een ajourpatroontje. Het garen is Jawoll van Lang.

Esmée as well is now provided with a pair of socks. This time again a pair from 'Breien to go: sokken', after all I want to knit all this models eventually.
Although I rather would have knitted a pair with a culinary theme. Because as it happens, Es cooks a lot. Here can you read about her events in the kitchen. There are patterns with a culinary theme, but they weren't really what I was looking for. All at once I think of 'spekkoek', a 'spekkoeksock' would be an easy one. Well, too easy, if a ever find a real 'culinary Es-sock' I will knit it immediately. Promised!
At last I choosed Luchtige Ribbels. A sock where you alternate a rib with a lacepattern. The yarn is Jawoll from Lang.

 

Ik vond het weer spannend om sokken voor iemand anders te breien, maar volgens Es zitten ze goed. En Pumbaa? Die vindt ze ook goed!

I found it exciting again to knit for somebody else, but Es says they fit well. And Pumbaa? He agrees!

Pure Wool Worsted Mystery Afghan Knit-A-Long : finished!

Met zwoegen, zweten en ook wat gevloek heb ik het gehaald! Mijn deken was klaar voor 31 juli dus had ik de tijd om plaatjes te schieten voor de wedstrijd. Je kon meedoen in 5 categorieën, ik deed mee aan twee ervan.

With hard work, sweat and yes, even some swearing I finished my blanket in time. So I could take  pictures for the competition. I entered in two categories.

Most colourful/creative colourway:

Of het de meest kleurvolle of creatieve is weet ik niet. Maar voor mij is het toch wel een beetje gedurfd. Ik kocht mijn kleuren per week, met in mijn achterhoofd lila, paars, roze... Daar paste ook grijs bij. En toen liep ik vast voor de laatste kleur. Help!!! Of ik nam er een kleur bij die erg op de al gekozen kleuren zou lijken of ik nam een helemaal andere. 

Ecru is wel veilig dacht ik. Maar die was in bestelling. Even wachten dus. Maar aangezien ik de deken af wou voor 31 juli werd de tijd krap en moest ik wat anders beslissen.

Om de Pure Wool Worsted en de KAL te promoten lag in de etalage van 't Wolwinkeltje een stapel bollen PPW. Daartussen lag lichtblauw en wonderwel leek die kleur de omliggende kleuren wat te absorberen, zodat het iets lila-achtig kreeg. Terwijl als je de bol in handen hebt het toch wel écht lichtblauw is. Zou ik durven? Ik heb het gedurfd en ben er meer dan tevreden over! Het lichtblauw past perfect tussen mijn kleuren en maakt de deken veel levendiger dan het geval met ecru zou geweest zijn. 

 

If it is the most colourful or the most creative, I don't know. But for me it is a bit dared. I bought my colours per week, with in mind lilac, purple, rose,.... Grey also went well with it. But then, for the last week I was in trouble. Help!!! Or I would take a colour that was (too) close to the ones I already had, or, I would pick something completely different.
I went for something different, but safe: ecru. But that was on order. I waited for a while, but since I wanted to finish in time I had to make an other decision.

To promote the Pure Wool Worsted and the KAL, there was a stack of PWW in the window of my LYS. In the stack was a ball light blue. Surprisingly the light blue seemed to absorb the surrounding colours, so it became a bit lilac. While, when you have the ball in your hands, it is really light blue. Would I dare? I dared and I'm very happy with it. The light blue fits perfect between my colours and makes the blanket more vivid then the ecru would have done.

 

 

Mij favoriete blok uit de deken is die van week 6.

Ik vond het verbazend om te zien hoe je over 4 steken zo'n grappige 'doughnut' kon maken.

 

My favorite block is that of week 6. I was amazed to see how you could make such a funny doughnut.

 

 

De minst favoriete was  het blok van week 5. Mijn bobbels bleven nogal onbeduidend. Ik las een boel tips & tricks om ze dikker te maken, maar ik hield me netjes aan de beschrijving.

 

The least favorite was the block of week 5 . My bobbles stayed rather insignificant. I've read some tips and tricks to make them thicker, but I kept to the instructions.

Het schattigste blok was dat van week 8. De combinatie van lace met kabels die gewoonlijk nogal stoer overkomen vond ik heel geslaagd.

The cutest block came in week 8. The combination of lace with cables, usually rather sturdy, was really successful.

Nu is het wachten op de uitslag van de wedstrijden en is er weer tijd om andere dingen af te werken. Van een zwart gat is er zeker geen sprake.

 

Now it is waiting for the results of the competitions, and to work on other projects. No sign of a black hole here!
